first of all go to
xbox.com
go to sign up
make sure you gamer tag is not gey ahhahahah
fill in all requiered info
in order to play online you have to give credit card info also
once your done with the sign up
all you have to do is connect your xbox with an ethernet cable (no phone cable XD)
another thing is you have to buy xbox live card wich alows you to play =)
some are 50 some are 20
once the card expires they will charge atomaticly to your credit card for a 12 month or a 1 month card

you dont need a credit card.
daydreamer is kinda right about the gold account. but how you get an account is you can do this one of two ways. online on a computer or online through your xbox 360. if you have a wireless network adapter for the 360 you dont need an ethernet cable. first you have to create an account. xbox.com can help you on that and actually walk you through this process.

you can get buy a gold account one of two ways. goto a store and buy a gold account card (cheaper if you get a year card) or put your credit card info online on your 360 in account settings.
