Very simpy put, because of the tobacco lobbiests and the large amount of money given to congress by the tobacco companies. Just another reason why the government "of the people, by the people and for the people" is a misnomer.

Because a major crop of this country in the colonial age was Tobacco. . . Basically Cotton and Tobacco were the Colonial money makers, so we were founder on them.

That's a good question dejhon. Cigarettes are bad for your health, but marijuana which is healting is not. Medicine is "Big Business" in this country. The drug companies and the doctors work hand in hand. If people knew there was a cure for cancer, diabetics, heart attacks etc and this information got out, people wouldn't need doctors. They could just heal themselves.

Marijuan is a mind altering substance. Anything that alters the state of the mind that is not prescribed on prescription by a doctor is illegal. Nicotine is definately bad for your health but is not a state of mind altering substance.

Your answer has to do with the law makers of the early days of this country. There is a great show on the history channel called "Hooked - America and Drugs" that goes into the detail of how the American government made pot illegal so they could deport illegal Mexicans.

it's because our government is stupid...ok I know people that have smoke cigarettes since they were like 14 and I know people that have smoke weed since they were the same age and now they're about 40 years old and guess who's more efed up? the cigarette smoker...the pot head is healthy and doesn't have anything wrong with him...but the main reason is that weed alters your mind quite a bit so you may become "dangerous" according the the gov...so just go and ask someone in politics...this country was founded on tabbaco, so ya

well because all cigarettes are basically the same. Granted some companies put in different things for flavor and stuff but its all produced the same way. Weed is different. Weed varies based on many different things. Its not legal mainly because they can't test the effects and get consistent results.
