Hi! I own horses, and I am also looking for horses to adopt to have as pleasure riding horses. I've volunteered at several places and unfortunately, there's lots of paperwork to go through if you plan on adopting a horse. Horses are a big liability, so it's not easy. It's also nearly impossible to adopt a horse for that price. Are your parents willing to support a horse? Keep in mind that vet bills, boarding, farrier expenses, bedding, feed, tack, everything that goes with it can REALLY add up on the bills. Just be sure that you have all of that figured out before you think of adopting one.

Okay I have two horses and I love it they are awsome to have. I used to do this thing with my mom it was called the Standerbred Retirment foundation. All you have to do is make a donation to there fund and a retierd race horse will come to your house. If the horse doesnt work out it can always go back into the program. At one time I think we had 5 horses at once but 9 all together from that. Its really great! so if you are interested I think they have a website. im not sure but give that a try. If that doesnt work out go to DreamHorse.com and you could find a hprse in your area.

Hope everything works out!

Many times here in Arkansas horses are put up for adoption with the humane soc. Some of these are out of bad homes and others were turned over to them because their owners (staff) couldn't afford to care for them anymore.

Try BLM "Bureau of Land Management" Look it up on the Internet to see when they will be in your area.

Wow, you can't get a REAL nice horse for under 300 inless you know a lot of trainors and breeders and stables and have connections. and you need to know what your doing to check out its confirmation and its disposition, and if you don't , bring a trainor who does. Keep in mind, you can probably get a non broke, non perfect confirmation, and not a good disposition for 270, you CAN break a horse, you CAN work on the disposition and supplments can help a little tiny bit but never get them fully out of pain with confirmation. its a few thousands for a REALLY REALLY nice life time horse. about 2,000 for a nice kid horse.

I paid $400 for my reg.Foundation Missouri Foxtrotter. She is trained for riding and will pull a cart or wagon and is very very safe with children. She also will go anywhere and jump anything that I ask her to. There are many excellent horses just like her that may be had for $300-$500.

Karleigh, It's better late than never and anything that we can do to help somebody find their dream horse is worthy of thanks.
