1.Pictures of family, friends, pets, anything to put there mind someplace else for a minute. A loving note is underated, even for the ground pounders. 2. Food! lots of non-perishable snacks or protein bars. Carefull with chocolate, it melts fast and isn't fun to eat when warm. Kellog's cereal bars are a tasty alternative. Powerbar's aren't bad either but they can be an aquired taste. 3. No matter if in bootcamp or in the sandbox, things get dirty, and small toilletries that save a stop at the PX are great. Instant hand sanitizer is a win-win. 4. Anything personal that might give a smile, you know your soldier best.

Oh, and if you want him to write you back -- pre-addressed and pre-posted envelopes. Yes, even to other family members so all he has to worry about is a quick note and a drop-off.
