I have a puppy and every time I put him outside to go to the bathroom, he always runs next door, then to the other next door, then around my trees and I can never seem to catch him, and I tried putting him on a leash, but he always gets away or either ...

bites me and pulls the leash away. what should I do?

How does he get away with a leash on?? Is his collar tight enough?? You should only be able to get 2 fingers beneath his collar.

If he's under 4 months...try running the OTHER way, and calling his name...he'll follow...He thinks you chasing him is a game...and every dog I've ever known has totally loved THAT game. He'll also think that you running from him is a game...and it usually works.

Shut the door and leave him out. Wait a few minutes and go back to the door. If he does not come in shut the door again, make sure your turn off the porch light. Wait a few minutes. After you do this a couple of times he will come running in. You will have to repeat this a few times to get it through to him that you are not kidding and you will leave him out if he does not come in after he potties (Not really)

By the way do you not have a fenced yard? If you don't than you must find a halter or collar, that your dog can not get out of and YOU must teach your dog to potty on command. Go to the library and get a book on how to teach your dog to potty on a leash.

Now if you use the first method trust me. Your dog does not want to be left out. But if you do not have a fenced yard you can not let your dog out unless you take the time to leash train your dog to potty on a leash and "GO POTTY" on command. No dog should be loose if your yard is not fenced and he is not trained to commands.

Lots of good training books at your local library on dog training
