What's wrong with black staying black?

Why are people always saying there is a new black? Black is black, not green or brown or navy blue or hot pink or whatever the last one was.

Its just a saying because other colours start to get all popular and stuff.

but I guess in the fashion world temporarily, other things become as or more popular than black
hence the saying
but nothing lasts in the fashion world
so in the end black always stays as popular as it was
but every now and then something comes along that they can call "the new black"

It's a turn of phrase coined years ago. No need to put too much thought into it. It's not actually a gauge of things being more popular than black at all, like jazlovestoskate says.

How trendy of you. It's not a beautiful color. In fact, it's the absence of color. I don't mind black at all, but saying it's beautiful is cliche.

People who say this or that color is the new black are generally the same people that try to keep up with everyone else when it comes to fashion. These are the same idiots who walk around a while back with the John Deere Caps on.
