sounds like you have a cramp so you need to do both,
such cramps are caused by
dehydration
low potassium or sodium (salt) levels
low carbohydrate levels
very tight muscles
and not warming up (stretching) before and after exerscising
so to help make the cramp go away you need to
stretch the muscles involved, hold the stretch for as long as you can
gently massage the muscles that hurt as well
and if you must, only do light exerscise for the time being
Well if you missed a lot of running and are trying to get back into it you first have to make sure your drinking enough water. Thats a solution for cramps. Secondly yes you should warm up a few minutes and then stretch because the warm up is more important than stretching. Then after words do a cool down walk or lighter jog. Its up to you if you want to stretch afterwards. I do.
but I do drink enough water these days, and I do warm up before I jog.

What's up with my legs?
Okay, so I gained weight, like 16 pounds, I'm trying to not feel depressed about the whole thing. im starting jogging again. ever since saturday, my feet, shin and calves burn like hell. they hurt so so so bad. I rested yesterday and jogged again just now. same thing happened. my mum said that I have to rest my legs for a few days. but I should I just do that? or should I do any stretching or anything?
