What's the deal with hannah montana?

Ooh, shiny (Thanks to Don for his mad skills!) Asked by lex_icon about 1 year ago, 28 answers.

I just looked up Hannah Montana on Google and Wikipedia- found out a bit about her (She hasn't been anyone of interest in New Zealand), and checked out a few of her performances put on youtube. Sure, she can sing and dance- she's a talented kid. I just...

don't see her as anything terrible new or innovative... it seems like another Lizzie Maguire.

But my question is this: Why are people so brainless that they'll pay horrendous amounts of money to see the latest pop-tart trend on stage?

It's even harder to understand why people will pay around and up from $260 US, when I can go to a Day long concert in New Zealand (Big Day Out) and see bands like Garbage, The Foo Fighters, NOFX, The Killers, Muse, My Chemical Romance etc... for $110 NZ (around $84 US)!

What makes Hannah Montana worthy of such expense tickets?

...aaand that totally wasn't an answer to my question. If you read the article properly you'd notice I wasn't insulting her, just asking why tickets were so expensive.

Isn't Hannah Montana a fictional character?

All those Disney's made-for-TV stars have a strange way of attracting a lot of tweens and some teens. This is why I hate people.

because she is so great but her tickets are to exspensive but its not her fault because a company bought all of her tickets and is selling them for up to 2500.

She is a DISNEY superstar of the disney production line. She is a teeny bopper sensation. All girls 6-11 ( some older) are IN LOVE with her. There are worship shrine webisite to her. She's on the most watch show on disney, in which miley cyrus stars in called Hannah Montana, about a girl who has a double life, she goes to a normal school and lives a normal life EXCEPT she is secretly a popstar and nobody knows except her dad, brother, and 2 best friends. Her "mom" has passed away. SO I hoped that helped. Fun mail me if you have ANY questions. I should know, my sister practically knows everything from the day she was conceived and ON.

her dad is famous.
and the reason her concert tickets are so high is because people keep buying them all as soon as they come out, and reselling them at ridiculous prices.

Hmm... I never said she wasn't talented... I also never said I was better than her... I suggest you re-read the question.

Also, I advise you against insulting people on this site- it doesn't make you look terribly good to the advisors...

FIRST OF ALL FOR THOSE COMMENTING ON THE RIDICULOUS PRICES. THE TICKETS WHEN PURCHASED PROPERLY FROM TICKETMASTER RANGED FROM THE PRICE OF 20ISH -50ISH DOLLARS FOR MOST CONCERTS. I BELIEVE THERE WERE A FEW THAT WERE UP TO THE LOW 60'S. SO THE LAST I CHECKED THAT ISN'T TOO HORRIBLY EXPENSIVE COMPARED TO a lot OF CONCERTS. SECOND OF ALL I BELIEVE EVERYONE CAN LOOK BACK AT THEIR CHILDHOOD YEARS AND REMEMBER SOMEONE THEY JUST THOUGHT WAS "OH SO GREAT". SO I BELIEVE THESE YOUNG GIRLS DESERVE TO HAVE THEIR PERSON THEY LOVE WITHOUT PEOPLE SLANDERING HER OR HER FATHER. IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE SOME PEOPLE ARE JEALOUS THAT SOMEONE CAN SING/DANCE AND BE SUCH A HIT! SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE DOING SOME INSANE THINGS SUCH AS DRINKING OR DOING DRUGS TO HIT THE HEADLINES LIKE a lot OF OUR "IDOLS" THESE DAYS.
AND IF YOU KNEW MUCH ABOUT IT THERE WERE STRICT LIMITATIONS ON GETTING HER TICKETS TO TRY TO PREVENT THIS WHOLE SCALPER TICKET PRICING.
BUT WHEN YOU BECOME A PARENT AND LOVE YOUR CHILD SOMETIMES YOU'LL PAY STEEP PRICES TO BRING THEIR DREAMS TRUE.
AS FOR ME I PURCHASED MY DAUGHTERS TICKETS THE LEGAL WAY AND DIDN'T PAY THAT MUCH MONEY FOR THEM SIMPLY BECAUSE I LOVE HER!

Just because you spend money on your daughter doesn't mean you love her any more than parent who can't afford to. My parents never had a lot of money to spend, but they were always there for me to talk to, and would make time for a board game with me. The most important thing you can spend on your children is time, not money.

*applauds lex_icon's last post*

Never a truer word said. My parents never had much money when I was younger either, in fact we lived very close to a street which was once considered to be the poorest street in the country and an example of what not to do with State housing (put them all next to each other). I've never had a Sega System or a Playstation, but just because my parents couldn't buy me those things does not mean they loved me any less than a parent who did buy their children those things.

Anyway, I think lex_icon's original point in this post is getting lost. Sure, tickets when bought legitimately from ticketmaster are seemingly a reasonable price. But it would appear that people are buying up the tickets and selling them off at a higher price - quite a bit higher in some cases. And the thing is, people are paying those prices.

So, that brings me to what I think was the original point of this post - why are people willing to pay those hiked-up prices to get tickets? Is it because Hannah Montana is _that_ good (really don't know much about her, like lex_icon said she hasn't been anyone of interest here in NZ), is it parents feel their kid won't love them if they don't get tickets, or is it because parents think their children will feel more loved if they know their parents paid heaps for tickets to a show they want to see (I.e. using money to show love)?.

Answered by tripled3 on Nov 27, 2007, 10:47AM

I'm not sure where the assumption was made that anyone is trying to buy their child's love. It was simply stated that as a parent sometimes (and if you're not a parent yet, you can't totally relate) that love is so deep that parents would do "unlogical" things for their child. ie. spend too much on concert ticktets. I agree love is given freely. Through a simple smile, a book read, a listening ear, play time and so on and so forth. I also agree with people being crazy and buying those ridiculously priced tickets because it is only aiding the scalpers to continue doing it with her tickets and other tickets.
I am sorry my entry was misleading in the way it read. It is sad that there are parents out their trying to buy their children's love.
