May I just make one suggestion? Political affiliations aside, republican or democrat of green or libertarian, getting one's knowledge about the inner workings of government and the history of the United States from an e-mail is probably not the route that's going to garner the most accurate information. If you are passionate about a subject, do some independent research and learn all the facts possible BEFORE forming an opinion. Otherwise, you're just going to blindly repeating the opinions of someone else, and those beliefs are fairly impossible to defend.
Yea it is spanish but mostly because of all the illegal immigrants. And there's nothing wrong with America ok? I realize this is your opinion but sarah for your information I'm american and I find that really offensive. It's not America, it's the people, it's the "leaders"
I'm confused -- you're upset that English is not the official language or you're upset that the US doesn't have an official language? And how does that correlate to illegal immigration?
So...the leaders that were elected by the citizens of this country do not represent the citizens of this country?
Once again there's nothing wrong with AMERICA itself, its the so called leaders that are leading us to destruction, the way we manage the country, we could be so much better if we would stick with what the founding fathers wanted. There are so many illegal imigrants that speak spanish that people believe that spanish needs to be our primary language, when americans elected democrats into congress that's what changed everything, it's the congress that runs the country, the presidential candidates that voted for this from what I know are democrats.
I'm still confused. The Congressmen didn't simply elect themselves. If you have problems with your representation, work to change it. As it stands, the constitution of the House of Representatives is merely a (as the name implies) representative sample of the voting public.
And as it stands, I hardly think a 51% majority makes a governing body overwhelmingly Democratic.
If you don't mind my saying, the notion that Congress "runs" the country represents a fairly limited understanding of the process of checks and balances. Congress can no more run the country than can the President or the Supreme Court. If Congress acted in any way that violated the established United States Code, the President could simply veto or the SC would overturn the enacted bill.
Could you give us a few examples of the principles of the founders that you feel are being violated?
I can't seem to find the emails so don't bother with this question any more because I'm the only one that has proof to what I'm talking about. And I'm the only person that has seen these emails and spent days reading all the things that have changed since demecrats were elected into congress, im sorry I'm am super republican and can never see eye to eye with democrats democrats think with there, hearts and republicans use there brains, I have many democrat friends and we can spend hours arguing (it's fun) on political facts and neither of us win because we see things two different ways and there's no right or wrong way, it's all opinionated and as my favorite teacher always said "opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one and they all stink."
There has been an email circulating that claims Democrats voted against the English language being the national language of the United States. here is the whole story.
If you do some research, you'll see that the e-mail is referring to an amendment to a bill that was in Congress called the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006. In that bill, which was passed, (some opponents said that this bill allowed easier legal status to illegal aliens) the amendment that was voted "Nay" by the Democrats did propose that "The Government of the United States shall preserve and enhance the role of English as the national language of the United States of America." But it also said that "no person has a right, entitlement, or claim to have the Government of the United States or any of its officials or representatives act, communicate, perform or provide services, or provide materials in any language other than English." The Democrats were voting against that portion of the bill judging by the results of their votes on the following Amendment (Salazar Amdt. No. 4073 As Modified).
So, for you dummies...they voted AGAINST the bill, NOT FOR THE PART ABOUT ENGLISH BEING THE OFFICIAL LANGUAGE, BUT BECAUSE OF THE ADDITIONAL WORDING that would would mean that the government would not have to provide services in any language other than English.
People DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH INSTEAD OF BLINDLY SWALLOWING WHAT IS
FED TO YOU!!!
Wow, I see more name calling than actual thought on this question.
That being said, more research SHOULD have been done as mikah suggests before an opinion is formed.
I must insist that the American government, while run only by a few, is America. It's not just the people and the dream of freedom. It's the government that drives us there. There are huge problems with our government, but nothing is ever going to change unless we get off our butts and do something about it.
Vote every time, not just for presidential elections. The people we choose as senators, representatives, mayors, town officials, etc. make up our government. Don't resort to fighting, use the government. Petitions, letters to our officials etc. if you have a problem. I feel no one has a RIGHT to complain, unless they have taken steps to make their voice heard where it counts!
