New Age. That innocuous blend of mundane, predictable, tiring chord progressions and oh so saccharin harmonies, is the great pretender of all pretenders. It tries to be something it is not. And when accompanied by video... swaying bodies with luxurious hair and pirate shirts, leaning over balconies superimposed with soft focus rose petals and violins.

Rap isn't good enough to be a genre, in my opinion.

You realize that country and bluegrass were instrumental in creating rock-n-roll? Bill Haley, Johnny/Dorsey Burnette, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley...etc...all in the transitional movement. Rock-n-roll has definitely come a long way since then, but its hard to imagine it without these early influences...can't fathom it emerging from the standards and ballads concurrent with early country and bluegrass.

I don't particularly like New Country either. Up until the mid to late 90's it was pretty good. Corporate country always takes a back seat to the independent stuff since it raised its horrific head...but that can be said of any genre that plutocrats put their grimy hands all over.
