42 is correct...well done decor58!!!
I have read the bible...something isn't quite right there. Although there are some good directions to live by, I find it to be a bit chauvinistic & strange...making man from dust & woman from a rib & it just gets worse from there on in. But each to their own.
The meaning of life is to live in unison with the environment & not against it.
The Aboriginals had the right idea...they lived in Australia for 40,000 years before white man and his religion...but white man has disrupted the life spirit of the land, and it's religion destroyed a culture more in touch with Mother Earth than any misguided words written in a book 2,000 years old. I read the bible again recently, I thought with a more mature mind things would be different...but no. Anyway, interesting answers.
The philosopher Descartes said, "I think, therefore I am".
But I have convinced myself that there is absolutely nothing in the world, no sky, no earth, no minds, no bodies. Does it now follow that I too do not exist? No: if I convinced myself of something [or thought anything at all] then I certainly existed. But there is a deceiver of supreme power and cunning who is deliberately and constantly deceiving me. In that case I too undoubtedly exist, if he is deceiving me; and let him deceive me as much as he can, he will never bring it about that I am nothing so long as I think that I am something. So, after considering everything very thoroughly, I must finally conclude that the proposition, I am, I exist, is necessarily true whenever it is put forward by me or conceived in my mind.
This might not answer the question for the meaning of life but it would give doubt to having other sentient beings, those lower animals on the evolutionary scale. The meaning of life is an elusive concept that has been the subject of much philosophical, scientific and theological speculation. It would depend on what approach you want to take and there are entirely too many to discuss here. "Google it" and you'll see what I mean.
"Why " is the meaning of life. The meaning of life is the constant search for answers. We as humans are always searching for answers and this search drives us to constantly survive thus ensuring life. so curiosity is the meaning of life. without the need/desire to find answeres we wouldnt be here. so... questioning what the "meaning of life is" is the meaning of life.
~Roggan
I don't think anyone knows a specific meaning of life. I think we are all here to do something different and we all have a different meaning. Besides if someone knew the meaning of life then we wouldnt have any faith in the fact that we are here for a purpose and then someone could just be like whatever someone else can do that in my place. You could be meant to help people, to be a great parent one day, to be a teacher, to make a difference. You just never know. So good luck in finding your meaning of life. Just a hint you usually dont have to search to find it. It usually finds you.

Why do you think we are here? Do you think other sentient beings on Earth are conscious of their existence & question their purpose too?
