What is the bay of pigs?

It was the war that almost happened between us and Cuba in the late 60's I think. I'm not totally sure but I think that the u.s. thought they had nuclear weapons and we almost bombed them. If I'm wrong I'm sorry. I'm sure other people know much more, I am just trying to remember from school. anyway hope this helps a little. peace out!

The bay of Pigs invasion was a failed attempt by then Presisent Kennedy to assassinate Fidel Castro. The marines did not want to attempt it, but with the promise of air force fire power support if needed, they were sent in. When the roughly 119 marines were ambushed and requested the promised air support they needed for defense and evacuation, it never came. All U.S. marines were killed.
