If they are external speakers make sure that the switch or button that is on one of the speakers is turned on. If that doesnt work. Next right click the speaker icon on the bottom right corner of your desk top and open the "volume control". There make sure that none of the 'mute' boxes are checked.
If none of these work and you are absolutely sure your speakers are plugged into the "right" place, press the "start button", then the "control panel icon", then the "system icon" then the "hardware tab". There you will see the "device manager" tab, click it. Look for the "sounds" and click on the "+" to expand the tree. If there is a "?" or a "!" there is an issue with that device. First right click on the device with the "? or !" and click on update driver. If that doesnt work right click it again and click the uninstall option (if there is no option for that highlight the device with the " ? or !" and hit delete). A window will come up that says "are you sure ?". Click yes and restart your computer.
If that doesnt work you may need to reinstall the software for the sound card. (usually on a separate cd).
