L-Carnitine is not an A mino Acid, in the strictest sense of the word. It is acually a substance related to the B-Vitamins. Its main function is to help transport long-chain fatty acids, which are burned withing the cells, mainly in the mitochondria, to provide energy. This is a major source of energyfor the muscles. Carnitine thus increases the use of fat as an energy source. This prevents fatty build up, especially heart, liver and skeletal muscles. Carnitine may be useful in treating chronic fatigue syndrome.
