What does the expression "a watched pot never boils" mean?

What does the expression or saying ' a watched pot never boils mean?' Does mean if you keep wanting something to happen that it will never happen??? Please explain this to me. Thanks.

if you wait for something to happen, it wont
and also that, but like, you have to go out and make it happen
or in the pot case, not watch it

a watched kettle never boil means that for example; you get a crap mark in a test. you cant be impatient and hope to get 100% from studying heaps. things happen gradually and you need to give it some time before you can get that 100%. it could take a few months, a year maybe even 5 years.
