What does 'kcal' mean?

lollll! Asked by katieliddle233 about 1 month ago, 3 answers.

I realised that when it comes to how many calories are in things, it says stuff like '168 kcal'

What does the 'k' mean? At first I thought 'kilo' but it's ridiculous because I highly doubt theres 168000 calories in a bag of crisps lol

Anyone care...

to tell me?

It DOES mean kilo calories, your confusion is understandable.
In science, a calorie is an amount of energy, but it is very tiny, so when you talk about the energy in food, they say kilo calorie, kcal., or sometimes spell it with a capital 'C'.

PS - I know this is a simplification
