What are your thoughts about the greyhound decapitation?

Asked by fau 3 months ago, 11 answers.

I'm not sure if you heard but a man was beheaded on the greyhound bus this week. Tim McLean was peacefully sitting on the greyhound bus sleeping while listening to his music. All of a sudden the man sitting behind him started stabbing him and eventually...

beheaded him. He was walking down the bus aisle carrying Tim's head and at one point was even eating Tim's remains. There was no previous fighting or anything, it was at random and they never knew each other. Tim's killer is as of now only getting charged with SECOND DEGREE MURDER, this isn't right. If it stays at second degree murder, he will be eligible for parole in only 10 years.
What are your thoughts about this?

Hopefully these are just preliminary charges during the investigation - a shame our justice system doesn't allow for him to suffer the same fate.

They haven't made it first degree just because they have no proof that he went with intentions of killing someone - pathetic. Why else would he be carrying around a big Rambo-style hunting knife on the Greyhound bus?

id call it first degree murder but it seems this guy might pledge that he is in fact insane and get off with a few years in a medical facility...damn justice system

First I noticed this happened in Canada so I'm sure their laws are a bit different. Regardless, however, I would question this man's sanity. If he is not sane, it would be wrong to charge him with first degree murder because he could not fully appreciate what he was doing. There is also no evidence that it was a pre-meditated attack. I'm no legal expert but I think all those things factor into the situation.

Yeah - there's no way he's sane, he has no criminal past. The whole thing just frustrates me.

If the perpetrator decapitates a random person than walks around nonchalant with the victim's head I think he is probably completely nuts.

I'm in no way trying to defend the attacker's actions, but one should be very careful in covering the entire legal process unfair or "pathetic" without the complete battery of facts available to everyone working on this case. Media outlets only have the time and interest to cover the bullet points that'll sell copy, not the hours upon hours upon hours of investigation and legal wrangling that got the case to this point.

Maybe he has a long history of mental illness. Maybe this was the result of a plea bargain that gets him locked away in a psych ward the for the remainder of his existence. Maybe Tim was just as insane and had been sending him threatening letters. And as was already said -- it's impossible to charge someone with 1st-degree murder unless you can prove premeditation.

The point is, there's always more to the story than the newspapers have the space to report. It's difficult in the face of such heinousness, but it's important not to judge too quickly a legal system that, for the most part, works as best as it can manage. It's like all the simpletons across the Internet screaming about the "activist judges" in California overturning a gay-marriage ban without actually reading the 150-page verdict -- one upsetting piece of information does not make anyone an expert on a case.

some people just kill for the hell of it
more and likely he had this planned out and that guy had just been in the wrong place at the wrong time
and the he probably did something the man didnt like and decided thats the guy hes the one and carried it out
the whole eating his remains things im not sure about but ya
everyone has these urges old young mid-aged some have 100% control over others have some control over and others have no control over it and it slowly starts to eat them away
and then finnally one day theres no more of the person you ones knew onlythe urge
and this usually starts at a young age
but I could go on and on but most people wont listen...but they should

How shocking!!
I didn't hear anything about this Grayhownd bus incident. If Tim's killer is only going to get second degree murder and will be getting Puroll, that's not right!! If he lives in a state that promotes the death penalty, he should be the one to get it since he had no right to kill Tim. I don't take the Grayhownd busses for anything since I hear that it's not safe especially people on there will take advantage of you.
I really hope the killer will get more then just being charged with second degree murder. I believe in the death penalty to a certain point, but, if he doesn't live in a state that promotes that, he should be put in prison for life without puroll. My prayers are out to Tim's family.
