I think that any non- normal instrument that is used in metal only adds to the versatility of a band. a band can only do so much with the standard 2 guitar, bass, and drum set.
if violins and other orchestra instruments are used in the right way- it will make a metal song that much more amazing.
except for maybe a banjo- can't really picture a "metal" banjo duel, but who knows- tuned right it just might surprise me.

YES! Just listen to Korpiklani from Sweden. They are f***ng sweet! If you add classical instruments to such a new genre as metal it further pushes the boundaries of what is possible in the musical world.

it depends on what the actual songs are like.
if its a lame excuse for metal then it wouldnt matter what kind of instruments were in it.
it would still suck
