How to convert .vob files to .avi format?

How do I convert VOB files to something like AVI, so I can upload on youtube?

.VOB files are actually mpeg2. Usually you can get away with just renaming them to end with .mpg

FilletofSpam, how would I go about renaming them? I right clicked on the video and tried to rename it, but it wouldn't let me get to the .VOB portion.

To change the extension in Windows XP find the file with Explore then when you have the window click on Tools->Folder Options->View then un-check the option "Hide extensions for known file types." Now when you will see the extensions and will be able to easily change them.

I'm a command line kind of guy so I generally start a cmd window, cd to the directory then use the rename command.
