How to get knots out of long hair?

Asked by labloom1 11 months ago, 9 answers.

My 17 year old sister's hair is very long and curly and she has let it get into one giant knot ball. It's even knoted to the roots. She is too scared to go to a salon and get it cut because she's afraid that all they will do is cut all of her hair off....

Does anyone PLEASE have any advice for me. Any is appreciated. Thank you.

Detangler. but if it is a true mess, go to the salon and ask them. tell them that you dont want them to cut it off, but ask their opinion of what products to use on that problem.
GOOD LUCK

Yeah I would go to a professional. Go to a salon and tell them youo dont want it all cut off, but you want to get it un-tangled. Just ask them if there is anything they can do about it, or that you can do about it, if they cant.

tell her to wash her hair as soon as she gets in the shower then when she puts the conditioner in to leave in right until she is going to get out.after that brush it right after she gets out. tell to put her hair in a loose french braid and sleep and it then when she gets up take out the braid and re-brush it
p.s. my mom is a hair dresser and I used to ave really long hair and thats what she did for me glad I could help

sometimes I put in a little bit of conditioner in it when I run out of leave in conditioner!
it works pretty well, but I dont know if it's good for your hair...

Good Luck, but the "cut off the hair" might be the only option.
Other than that its going to need professional help, at least go to a neighbor hood salon and ask for an evaluation.

I have very long hair too( almost to my bumb). I OFTEN get those kind of knots, and about 3 times a month I go "not agian!"I almost have resorted to getting my hair cut too, but since I don't want it short and have had long hair since I was 7 (now 43), I NEVER want to do that! I have spent LOTS of money on various detanglers- cheap, and expensive, and most often the "salon " quality, but I came across one that really only works. And it REALLY works great!! The name of it is "bliss" by a company called Nioxin. I always buy at least 2 bottles of it at a time so I never run out! I also never use a brush when it is wet! This might seem to help get the knots out initially, but this actually damages the hair and destroys the cuticle...leaving it MORE succeptable to further knots! What you should use is a PLASTIC pick - the kind used for negro styles etc.Start by liberally spraying the knot first with the bliss, then start picking at the very bottom of the knot (the end furthest from the root), and slowly pick through the knot until you get it all out!I know this will work for you...let me know how this helps!:-)
