Uttaranchal - route suggestions please!?

I'm planning to drive down from Delhi to Almora, in a Family Sedan.

The classical route for me to follow would be to go via Moradabad - Rampur - Rudrapur - Haldwani - Bhowali - Nainital.

I just checked the maps more thoroughly and there is an...

alternative route that goes via Moradabad - Bazpur - Nainital.

The second route will save me about 55 kms I.e. two hours from the total travel time.

Can anyone advise me if the second route is good, and can a family sedan safely navigate the route? I am aware that the stretch between Rampur and Rudrapur on the classical route has very bad roads.

Please help as I'm leaving in a couple of days, and remember I'm NOT driving a SUV.

hey.. follow that route only because I been to thru that rout last year. Delhi - moradabad - rampur and one night stayed and been to Jim Corbett Safari there and frm there catch the road frm Rampur to Nainital I.e. approx 60 kms. Meanwhile when you will leave rampur for nainital , on d way just 10-15 kms I guess frm rampur there is corbettt water fall.. thts really cool calm beautiful place. be there for sometime and then move towards nainital.. that road too traffic less and gud road too.
