Uploading photos

I have tried several times to upload my photo and I hit browse and pick the picture I want and I put a caption in and after I hit upload it just erases everything I just did, and it still doesn't upload my pic. What do I do?

does the photo have an extension, eg, .jpg, .png, or .gif as part of the filenmae? If not, it won't upload.

Also, if the upload fails, there should be a message on screen that says why it failed...near the top of the page, above the photo upload form...
