Ugly compared to my friends. advice?

Asked by fau 2 months ago, 12 answers.

All my best friends are really skinny, pretty, tan and all the guys think they are so hott. I am really tall and awkward looking and I feel ugly as it is. I try not to be self conscious and compare myself to my friends but its really hard. The only guy who thinks im pretty is my bff who likes me but I think hes lying anyway. Any tips on losing weight and looking less ugly?

Send this to a friend

Here is the BIG secret to teenager-hood. Everyone feels awkward and out of place and unaccepted. Since you say you HAVE friends, I am not concerned. Just realize that they feel the same way, exept they are self conscious about their short legs and skin, etc. You have to go through this as a rite of passage to stay up past nine o'clock and drive a car. 'Try not to take life so seriously, you'll never make it out alive.' (ha... the only good thing that came from Van Wilder)

Why spend your time comparing yourself to others? Its not going to get you anywhere. Be proud of who you are and don't worry about others. Don't change yourself to make others happy, be yourself.

Well, you don't look ugly to me--you honestly look very pretty. You say in your profile that you're pretty so what changed your mind? You also say in your profile that you don't care what people think of you--I doubt the truth of that. We all want to be liked and accepted.

As far as comparing yourself with your friends, read Desierata (Google it). It says something very wise about comparing ourselves with others.

And as for that comparison, we all do that, too--in the end, it means nothing and is completely unimportant. I've lived long enough to come to believe that none of us see ourselves the way others see us and there's no value in dwelling on things we can't change.

Your life is a wonderful gift--make the most of it.

And, why are you up so late at night? I'm sure you have something better to do than stay up all night.

I hope you have a good day tomorrow (today).

I spent most of my teen and young adult life being insecure because my best friend had THE perfect body. I still have touches of insecurity now.

But you need to learn to love yourself at whatever size. If you dont, you'll wake up one day 5 years from now and regret having spent your vibrant youth hating on yourself.

As for feeling better about your looks. I find that whenever Im working out regularly that helps with my confidence. I wont have lost a pound but knowing that Im fit, healthy, and strong is quite empowering.

If you have long legs then show them off girlfriend! I don't know much about tanning but I always see this bronzing 'lotion' I think it's by aveeno but I'm not sure, you have to use it for a couple of weeks 2 get results I think, but make-up wise use bronzer, and from your pic you are not ugly. Don't do that to yourself if your head is always down then that's the direction you're headed in! All of that be yourself stuff is great and true at that but every woman needs to feel beautiful. Stop looking @ your friends physical benefits and take personal inventory of your own, This is a positive solution. Also think about highlights, it's summer time!

hey me 2, dont worry your not alone...the onley reason im with someone and people like me is because I dont care what anyone says..even tho most are prettier than me..it doesnt bother me, im short and akward, im not tan..I dont tan easy, im not exactly in shape but I play sports..I mean, I shouldnt matter to you how you look, and you shouldnt care what people think. everyone is pretty in their own way and if someone doesnt like you because of the way you look you dont need to be around them anyway!
thats what I think...I hoped it helps

I have never been good looking and now I am over 40 and I realize this is not going to get any better! But what I have had to do is use make-up, think about what to do with my hair and focus on the things that count in my life, and you know I am not aware of any disadvantages. It's actually quite surprizing how the perceptions of others differ from how we see ourselves. You have to learn how to project your inner persona and that is what other people see, not the outer shell.
