You can either get a bachelor's of arts or science in business. Arts = you study a foreign language, science = you study more math, physics, etc.

Most business programs require business calculus in any event, so most people I knew got a B.S. in business.

In terms of major in business, there are:
accounting
economics
marketing
business administration
finance
management
...however, these vary by college. Eg, some offer business degrees in new media, ecommerce or similar fields.

Personally (and I'm biased because I got a minor, not a major, in business) I believe business degrees are there for people to become good worker bees, not necessarily business leaders or executives. They teach you presentations, business acumen, management, economic fundamentals, the basics of marketing, unique value propositions, etc...all the buzz words.

However, if you're interested in starting a business or owning one - a business degree as a major is less helpful than a major in a specific field, such as mathematics, physics, art, dance, etc. The reason is because with those business skills, you're not building anything as a foundation - only the general knowledge of 'business' with which to work for somebody else, not necessarily start something.

Personally, I'd go double major if you must have a business degree, and a major in business will make you more employable when you graduate. However, I'd strongly recommend developing some area specific skills rather than just developing general business ones.

Why do I say this?
Me = first in my family in more than 3 generations to get a 4 year degree (I subsequently threw it away, because I was disappointed with it)

I've co-founded 8 businesses over the last 8 years, which is the length of time since I finished college. Sold 2 of those, and 4 of the businesses (two aside from funadvice) are still operating and profitable.

The other 2 were disbanded businesses in favor of the ones I'm running now.
