Totalitarian..or just control freaks?

captionnnnnnn Asked by twigy 8 months ago, 12 answers.

So twice now my titles to my questions have been changed by whoever runs this site.
Now why would you even give me a choice in titles if you're just going to change them later?
It's been my idea that cute catchy titles actually catch the eye and...

therefore give me better chances that my questions will be answered.
Besides, they're MY titles and MY questions, who is anyone to say that the title on something I wrote is wrong and what they change it to is right?
Thats a bit narcissistic.
I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to, and yeah, it's a bit weird when I cant find my questions because the title has been changed, or if I look into my profile thingy and think...what the f*ck I didnt write that.
It's awkward. Knock it off.

Now here's the question: (Because I'm sure my rant didn't count)
What titles have been changed of yours?
From (state the original title here) to (the title whoeverdoesit picked here)

PS: Just incase this one gets changed, the original was; "Totalitarian..Or just control freaks?"

This has come up a number of times. The site will change some titles to clarify the question and / or to make it into a form that is more easily found by their search engine. In fact, if you type in "Changing Titles" in the box at the upper right hand corner of THIS page, your answer is there!! #4, #5, #11, #19 all touch on your question.

Personally, it has helped one of my questions. I wasn't trying for a "cute catchy title", just one that clearly stated my question. I failed and they succeeded.

Imagine if every questions title was, "HELP..."

Stop whining and move on with your life.
Honestly... its obviously done for a reason.
The editors change it so it makes more sense so people know more about the questions before they click to answer it. Its no big deal, get over it.

Shall I be a devil and lock this one???

Naaah! I will let it run as it may continue to be amusing.

PS
Questions are generally only changed when they appear offensive or break the terms of use of this site. If you private message me I'm happy to look at what you say was changed.

"Its no big deal, get over it."

You're a bossy bit of goods =x

"I will let it run as it may continue to be amusing."

My stuff is amusing, and damnnn, even God allows me to question him.
But yes, I'll take you up on that and show you the titles.

Its called humour miscegenymiser but then again, with your agression and that pent up anger problem of yours that has appeared on more than one post recently, I suspect you really wouldn't understand.

We are not able to help you on here with that and can only suggest that you seek help from a medical professional.

Good luvk

It isn't just to help people find them easier, it's also to help in search engine results.

Not to mention, it does help people realize what you're even asking. This question for instance says NOTHING about changing titles in the title. So guess what? Totally unhelpful in search results. But I am guessing you don't even search for stuff, even on this site, because if you had, you'd see that this has been asked about 3487282949 times.

I feel like locking this because you're annoying me, but I guess I'll leave it up.

"It isn't just to help people find them easier, it's also to help in search engine results."

I'm sorry that you're missing the point.
Which is well- it's very weird to me to go into my profile and see that theres a question there by me and I don't reconize the title, because it's not MY title.
Some people do have a little thing called OCD and yeah, you know I get that you're all trying to do what you feel is best for other people (hence the narcissistic comment) but wouldnt it bold well if you I don't know PM'd the OP stating that you changed whatever about their post?
And the title does indeed pretain to the post. (for those who can connect the dots)

Anyways I'm sorry that I annoy because I fail to agree with you, I dare say you'll find that a lot in life.

I find it a little patchy that you all (as in staff yes?) talk about shutting down my board just because it questions the powers that be. Yet, there's how many "Am I pretty" stuff.

I must learn to be a bit more superficial.

twigy, yes, we realize that there are too many "am I pretty" questions Believe it or not, we delete most of those.

And yep, we modify question titles. Sure, it may make it harder for you to find which one you asked...but you've only asked _3_ questions.

http://www.funadvice.com/my... I can see that on your profile.

So if it's that hard to remember, after 3 questions on the site, what you asked (and the 3 includes this one) then, well, there's nothing we can do to help.

I'm very sorry about your OCD, and might I mention that I have a few personal TLA's of my own that cause me problems? In the spirit of sharing, I thought I'd mention it.

In any event, if you don't want your question title changed, it's simple: write it so it clearly captures the spirit of what you're asking, with good grammar & spelling, and we won't change it That'll save us time & effort, and make your experience here better. AND, it'll help encourage other people to do the same, you know, leading by example & what not.

Anytime you have feedback on how we can do better, we love to hear it. Thanks.
