The word aint

This is a very controversial word, some believe its a word others dont, I believe it is, what do you think bout it???

It's a hybrid-slang derivative of two words: aren't & isn't

...and its in the dictionary... therefore its a word.

1. bout is not a word

2. aint is not a word either

no, its not a word, but I use it to be funny a lot...it depends. who really cares unless you are meeting with the dictionary patrol, or in a professional atmosphere like work or school?

lish54... make your own list and put them into your own dictionary. And give a name to your dictionary. It's your own word(s) and with your own defeniton. No one will disagree with you ... it's your own. You and your own creativity. This is what my husband does. Wheneven he came across some kind of word that sounds funny and new... he always said " my new word ... I put in my dictionary... the name of his dictionary is jabba appa. So you can do that do.

It's in the dictionary, ain't it? haha I use it all the time. Maybe that's just because I live in the south. It's got to be a word if it's in the dictionary.

I believe it is the contracted form of "be not" which was used in older English. I have heard it used this way before and it comes out as "bain't" which, with the old English accent, doesn't enunciate the b very well.

I could be totally wrong but my experience tells me this is most likely correct.

Any unit of information people use to communicate that is well understood, is a word - in spite of what your English teacher told you.

The grammar nazi's want you to say "I'm not" or "I haven't" instead of "I ain't", but I say rebel! Rise up against them, and tell them you ain't going to take it no mo!

Some assume that, some don't. But language is constantly evolving, growing, etc. And the introduction of various slang terms, is a regular part of that evolution. New terms are created, old ones are phased out. Which is why we no longer normally use words like ye, thee, shall, thou, etc.
