Quick note: There is an argument out there about the differentiation between the and word ending in -a as opposed to it ending in -er. Obviously the -er ending is "the bad word" and the -a ending is only to be used between friends to show camaraderie.
Personally, I do not feel it sounds right either way, but I am somewhat torn. The fact that the -a ending is considered to be a different word all together, doesn't take away from the fact it was derived from the -er ending. But I am still torn as a love hip hop/rap music and in that sense, it is used an expression of your society, a reflection of the past.
I'm pretty sure that people in the past turned the "N" word into a positive thing by replacing the "er" with an "a" and saying it to their friends (to show camaraderie as said above) and to show racist white people that the word couldn't effect them the same way it did. Kinda like saying thank you when someone calls you ugly, because it bother's the other person that it doesn't effect you at all. >>>Just a theory<<<
Then, being the petty humans that people can be, the white people tried to flip the script right back and kept saying it to get under peoples skin... hence, it's not cool for a white person to try saying it...ONE it doesn't sound right anyways (no offense, Im white so nobody get offended) TWO why don't white people see that it truly would be hurtful (put yourself in the shoes of someone else, think of the past that word has, and ask if you, being in another persons shoes, would like being called that knowing the true meaning) >>>Once again, part of my theory<<<
Like I said, I'm white, but I half of my family's black. They may be step family, and family through marriages, but I grew up with them, and they are family. I've seen how that word used in the wrong way can bring someone WAY down.
Yes, I believe some things should be left in the past, and times change. But telling someone to forget what that word means coming out of the wrong mouth, is like telling someone to forget where they came from...no matter how bad it is, you don't forget.
And I don't get it, white people only want to say it because they shouldn't. It's like telling someone not to think about cake, and then it's all they can think about. Since they shouldn't say it, they want to worse than anything (not all people, just some).
As for the 'cracker' thing...white people were NEVER called crackers while being whipped with a switch. Most white people will never be put through the things that black peoples ancestors were.
END OF STORY...I could go on an on, but it useless because people still refuse to understand it!
I hate the whold race thing that is going on these days!
I mean if you say something to them the first thing they think is racist
such as the and word!
But the truth is... they call white people Whiteboy, whitie and all of these other names and that is racist too!
I mean the and word has got so out of hand because now it is considered a bad word or also known as the and word like it is forbidden to say!
I just think they need to calm down and think about what racism really is before they say something!!!
id say its the any... word thats more offensive than the ni... one
it also depends on how its used
people say it to people in a freindly way
but it can also be used as an insualt
if its used in an isualting way, then its racist
but if its not used in an insaulting way, then its not
I agree the word is being used in movies to much...but so are things like swear words, fast cars and girls wearing barely any clothing
...if its not used in an insualting way, there really isnt anything wrong with it
but white people nowdays just say it because they think its "cool"
I think its rediculus how many black people get all butt-hurt over a friggin word... you know where it originated? NIGER the African country! something my (italian-american) dad once told me is that if he were called a dago (the italian and word) HE WOULDNT CARE! I think all the blacks out there who are offended by that should suck it up and take it like the HUMANS they are!
there is a BIG difference between cracker and honkey and niggr OK! I wasnt asking about nigg@ or nigguh I was asking about NIGGR, I didnt ask how white people felt about racial slurs towards them, I asked EVERYONE about the "N" word! please if your going to answer the question give me an answer on who you feel about THAT word, not different variations or anything about that, or who can say what. nobody should be saying and I G G E R...thats how I feel about it.
I don't think it's okay for anybody to say it whether it be when the a or er.When said with the er by a white person it's meant as an insult. When said by a black person it can be used to refer to a friend.
I'm a black woman and when I hear the and word I think that it is negative either way.I try to avoid having friends who use the and word with an a.But,that mean that I prefer to be around other races because most black people that I know use that word.

The "n" word
So...what do you think about the "N" word? Do you think that it is wrong for white people to say it? Do you think that it is ok for black people to say it? Do you think that it is ok for black people to get mad at white people for saying it when it is a...
word that is used sooo much in our culture. It's in our music and movies, how do you feel about that?
