The key to your survival - brains or compassion?

If you were to be stranded on a desert island with just one other person, who would you choose --- a friendly, compassionate half-wit, or a cold intellectual?

And why?

Probably a cold intellectual (if we had a chance to survive)
if we were def. going to die I would say a friend
I would love to stay a live, but if I had to die I would like to spend it with someone thats friendly and not a a$$h*le lol

I agree with beans, if there was no chance in hell that I would live through it, I'd rather have the freindly person (a guy please!, lol) and if there was even the smallest chance of getting home, I;d chose the cold intellectual guy. I bet I could get through to him, plus I'm smart too, so I dont think I wud be that useless to him.=D

half-wit... I am smart enough for both of us...and am capable of entertaining myself...plus I enjoy solitude. One cold intellectual per island is enough.
and the half-wit would happily do the heavy labor, food gathering, shelter building, etc...
also, if we started to run out of food, the friendly, compassionate half-wit would gladly give me part of his food...

Choice A - why choose B, the cold fish - you're surrounded by them !!

I'll take the half-wit any day. My intentions being out of the equation... I would prefer having someone I could trust... to having not only someone who I couldnt trust... but who also had the intellectual capacity to use me as an instrument of his designed escape plan without the normal consience guilt trip to even include me when the time for embarkation came. I can also vividly envisage the scenario of him lecturing me on the statistical improbablity of rescue... ad nauseum... while the Royal Caribbean cruise liner sails past... into the sunset.

It would be different with the half-wit. I know that him parading around in his coconut top bikini, singing kelis' "Milkshake" would get old after the twentieth serenade... but I would have to assume that the lack of food would eventually bring an end to it. I could beguile him into taking all of the rescue watches using fancy time-zone arguments to which he would have to defer to the expert... me... "No... yesterday was the fire god Lamborghini diablo's day of the inverted calendar... today is eastern daylight savings time... and I'm afraid that the next two weeks look busy for you too"..."that doesn't look like the calendar for The Sultanate of Joe and Doug's Deserted Island circa 2008?'... that looks like the travel brochure?"... "Well it is!... oh great!... now you've pi$$ed off the sunburn god... Paba-Free!"

If nothing else he would be of limitless amusement with his naive approach at making the best of a bad situation... "Hey Joe... come swimming with the dolphins... this is fun!!"... "Doug... I don't think dolphins have gills"... "These do... come on"

Even if he eventually kills us both with his well intentioned but haphazard attempt at a shell game with old coconuts and perturbed black widows... it still beats the hell out of life with the calculating...logical...killjoy sort...

Hopefully someone with both qualities in balance...
it's like having the Professor and Mary Anne from Gilligans Island. Both are neccessary.

But since I have survival skills myself I would choose the friendly compasionate half wit. I don't need someone trying to tell me what we should do!
