Talking to my mom about depression

me... Asked by lonelyinlove13 4 months ago, 5 answers.

I've been depressed for a while and I was in therapy for a while too, but it didn't really help, so my mom took me out of it. I'm still depressed, but my mom seems to think that I'm better. I also think that I might possibly have a personality...

disorder. I just don't know how to bring it up with my mom and how to ask her for help. please help me?

I think that you need to look at why the therapy didn't help. Was it the lady, her method or you?

Depression isn't a thing cured over night, it sometimes seems that it's not helping, but t just takes time.
What kind of personality disorder? There are many...

and she's your mum, just ask her "will I ever feel happy or better?" she'll be like, I thought you were fine, and then, normally you'd go, no no I am I'm having a bit of an off day, or I’m feeling poo today. DON'T, say, you have tried working through this yourself, and you don't feel you’re getting anywhere, what should I do?

if you can't organise treatment yourself, then you need to give her the facts. Your not going to get anywhere wondering.

What I will say is, how ling have you felt like this? it is only recently that I have begun to truly appreciate the power of puberty...maybe you need something to help you with your hormones...honestly, my hubby thinks I have a personality disorder once a month...

go to regular doc first and say, whats going on, and it's really affecting you, if it could be related to your homones / periods, if so is there anything that can help??

regardless, your mum can't help if you don't tell her. I woulnd be gutted if one of my kids were unhappy and they felt they couldn't confide in me, wouldn't you with your kids?

I have limited experience with depression, as my ex apparently had a depression problem. I , however, found this out after we were together for a while and moved out of the state together! She was taking pills for it that before she met me. I guess I made her so happy that she didn't need them anymore. I wish that story had a happy ending.

I guess the point is you need to open up to a close friend. Someone that loves you. That person may be your mom, she will be your best friend. Your mom knows you more than anyway, and she cannot help if you do not tell her.

        Simply a Rose to brighten your day,
        And maybe lessen the cares in your way;

You are at an age where hormones, emotions and even your brain are undergoing strong changes. It is natural to occasionally feel confused or depressed.

The best thing you can do is to talk to a counselor or therapist. Barring that, find someone you can communicate your emotions and thoughts with, sort of like a sounding board. Keeping your thoughts to yourself doesn't help. If you can't find someone around you then consider Fun Mailing someone on Fun Advice.

The best way to get out of depression is to talk to your friends about it. They can help you out. My best friend was depressed for 3 years and she just told me now and I been helping her out just by listening to her because thats all people who are depressed really need. They dont need any depression pills or anything.

I've been depressed ever since I was 9 actually and I'm now 14. It's not something that's new to me. I've also tried to find what personality disorders I might have and my chances of having or being antisocial, schizoid, schizotypal, avoidant, and obsesive compulsive are high and my chances of being borderline and dependant are very high. I've had a lot of tramatic expieriences and that may also be what helped cause some of these problems.
