T-Mobile does use sim cards, and you cant use them on any phone from a different carrier.

correction you can use the sim cards on unblocked phones (unblocked meaning that there is no special carrier for that phone or it is unblocked by way of a Box)

just be sure the phone has the bandwidth of your state/country
