Suggestion for religious answers

VILLA! Asked by leevan 2 months ago, 16 answers.

People...

Just so that we can all appreciate the diversity of our differing religious views, why dont we put in two words at the start of every answer we make in the religion forum.

"I think"

Or "I believe"

Just a suggestion

Great! but our answers should be based in something...like the bible...referencing a scripture as to why someone believes a certain way otherwise it's just opinion...

precisely

for example, "I believe that God is the one and only true God as the Bible says..."

instead of smth like "I KNOW ..."

HUGE DIFFERENCE

Are you saying that having ancient scripture somehow makes a belief more valid? What about my pastafarianism?

mate this thread is not for a debate on the validities of religion. the point of the thread is merely to suggest a way under which better communication and understanding can be achieved between christians, non-christians, atheists etc. and with less tension. sorry but im afraid you have misunderstood my purpose of starting this thread

btw, chrysanthemum citing the Bible was just trying to say that on the religion forums we should back up with some evidence (once again, this thread is not for you to debate on the validity of the Bible), be it scripture from any religion, or atheist reasoning, theory etc. hope this helps

"What about my pastafarianism?"

Please, elaborate on this belief in pastafarianism. Because if it combines pasta with Rastafarianism, and therefore involves eating lasagna while getting toked, I am a willing convert.

No matter what you say, or what you do people will always fight about this. Even when you try to come up with a way to stop the bickering someone always has to ruin it.

"b/c it isn what I think, its what God's says, and yes it is what I believe but im not going to say it as a "im not sure thing" b/c I am sure"

then I suggest you put the words "I believe" when you make an assertion, because a lot of people are not sure, unlike u. sorry for being blunt

But what about those of us who *really do know*? Why should *I* have to couch my knowledge in such a back peddling way, when I *know* I'm right?

because I think its better if we actually respect other beliefs, instead of trying to force a "christian" to stop believing or an "atheist" to start believing. it achieves nothing but just builds up tension

I dont think the funadvice religion forum is for people to convert others now is it?

"I dont think the funadvice religion forum is for people to convert others now is it?"

If a 13-year old girl posts a topic asking how to give her boyfriend good oral sex, do you think everyone should respect the question, and respond by giving her the advice she's looking for? Or do you think people should be able to tell her she has no business performing oral sex at 13?

So, if a religious person posts a topic asking for advice on how to get closer to God, or how to convert people, are we required to ONLY post such advice? Are we not allowed to tell that person there is no god, and that religion brainwashes people?

I understand where you're coming from, about tolerance and respect. But unless your answer violates the website's terms, I don't think there is any reason to refrain from answering a person's question just because they might not like the answer.

"I don't think there is any reason to refrain from answering a person's question just because they might not like the answer."

no no no dont get me wrong. I didnt say anything about refraining from answering any questions at all. what I think we should do however is to remind ourselves that whatever believe, or KNOW, are our own opinions that should not be imposed on others

"Are we not allowed to tell that person there is no god, and that religion brainwashes people?"

thats your opinion. many people (religious people) do not believe that religion brainwashes people. the crux here is that this is your own viewpoint. although you certainly have the right to express your own ideas, I think you should try not to act like a knowitall. like a lot of religious, and non-religious, people do

"If a 13-year old girl posts a topic asking how to give her boyfriend good oral sex, do you think everyone should respect the question, and respond by giving her the advice she's looking for? Or do you think people should be able to tell her she has no business performing oral sex at 13?"

I think its ok to advise kids not to rush into sex in their early teens. however, once again if she chooses to ignore your opinion then too bad, because you are not her father, to be blunt. (its not murder right?)

on a side note: this is an excerpt from funadvice's terms of use

"Any content that is considered offensive to the FunAdvice community, such as racism, bigotry, RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE, hate speech or physical threats against any group or individual will be deleted"

think religion doesnt make sense? fine. but learn to tolerate the diversity of opinions on this site...unless they try to convert you -.-

If you have a relationship with God, thru Jesus Christ, and you read and study his word, you do not have to "think"... You can know.
