What is the best way to make sugar cookies? I always try to make them but they turn out really bland and broken. What are some good recipes?

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
2. In a medium bowl combine the flour and salt with a wire whisk. In a large mixing bowl cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed. Add the egg and vanilla, and beat until well blended. Scrape down sides of bowl, then add the flour mixture. Blend on low speed just until combined. Do not overmix.
3. Gather dough into a ball. Flatten the ball into a disk and wrap tightly in plastic wrap or a plastic bag. Refrigerate one hour until firm.
4. On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4 inch thickness. With cookie cutters, cut dough into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Decorate with colored sugars or sprinkles. Bake for 13-15 minutes, being careful not to brown. Immediately transfer cookies with a spatula to a cool, flat surface.

Plain old sugar cookies suck!!!
1 C. butter
2 eggs
1 C. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla or almond
2 1/2 C. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
a touch of nutmeg

Cream butter & sugar, then add well beaten eggs. Add remaining ingredients and mix well.Roll on floured board and cut into desired shapes. Bake at 350* for about 10 mins. Just slightly brn. Have fun decorating them.

From a recipe my Mom used to make when I was a kid. We made powdered sugar frosting, and would spend the whole afternoon -(Mom & kids)- decorating.

Here's something like, but different.
Sugar butter biscuit. ('Boter Koek' from Holland)
Looks like brownies sort of, except no chocolate.
Heat oven 350 degrees
1/2 lb. butter (soft!)
1 1/3 c. sugar
1 egg
Mix/cream together
add 2 cups flour, mix in parts(slowly) Dough is thick, maybe use wooden spoon, processer, or hands. (batter is very yummie). Put in brownie pan, thick like brownie. With your fingers, spread a tablespoon or so of milk over the top (gives it a glaze).
Bake 45 - 60 mins. until golden brown.
Smells like heaven.
Cool some and cut into brownie like pieces (smaller than brownies, it's rich and very yummie). enjoy
