Does mono last forever?

HI I was 2-3yrs old when I had severe Mono. I want to know does it lasts forever or short term. I am 20yrs old now.

I had mono two years ago and my doctor said that once you have it, it never leaves your system. but you won't stay sick or have symptoms. it's like a tattoo...your stuck with it forever, but eventually its not all raised and flaky. so if you ever have a blood test chances are it will show up. I don't know why this is, but that is what I know. hope I helped.
