Should I spay my female puppy?

She's really playful and energetic and a lot of fun. I don't want her to have puppies or go through the "in heat" process with the bleeding here and there & all that.

I know I should neuter her in that case then but then I'm also hearing that dogs...

gets all BORING after being spayed or neutered. Is that true?

Yes, please spay your puppy. There are so many dogs in shelters because of lack of spaying/neutering, and you would be -potentially- saving dogs' lives by spaying your dog. So many helpless dogs are put to sleep each year because of lack of responsibility. Why put your dog through the pain, and add more puppies to an overpopulated earth? I read that an estimated 56% of all dogs that enter Animal Shelters are euthunized because of overpopulation and/or lack of homes.

Your puppy will not change! Yeah, maybe the first few weeks after the surgery. She'll be tired, and want to rest a lot. That is normal! But her overal lifetime personality will not change. You'll feel the satisfaction of saving one, maybe several dogs from being put-down. Why? Because if your dog has puppies, and they end up in a Shelter, that's less of a chance the others will have!

Its only dogs that are suposed 2 go quieter after bein castrated, but with female dogs they dont change. My dog was castrated, and he is stilll as mad as ever, so yer, you should get her spayed, its got more pros than cons.

That is not not true. My big Black Labrador Jack has been neutered but he hasnt changed a single bit. he is still very playful (at 5 years old) and is always enthusiastic about going for walks and playing (ESPECIALLY WHEN FOOD IS INVOLVED) but as far as I know, your dog should not change as long as you give it lots of playful attention like before it gets spayed.

I would spay your puppy. A spayed/neutered pet lives a longer, healthier life.

Of course you should spay your dog...for all the reasons YOU stated (no blood, no accidental puppies)...and for the reasons others stated.

There have been times when I wish that a neutered or spayed dog did get as lazy as the old wives tale says...LOL...but so far (and EVERY ONE of my pets have been fixed by 6 months old)...I have yet to have a dog who's lost it's playfullness, it's need/want to work...or it's energy...that is an old fable, and it's all BS.

another reason to spay BEFORE her first cycle is that when a female dog goes into heat her mammary glands are stimulated to start growing' but a spayed female with few heats is less likely to form breast cancer yes breast cancer always a good idea if not interested in breeding her

Spaying her is the best decision you could make It will decrease her chances of cancer (breast and uterine) and also it doesn't change their personality much. That's an old wives tale. My dogs are spayed and are absolutely insane.

We let my dog go into heat before spaying her. They can be spayed while they are in heat. She is by no means boring either. You just cant get them spayed too early or it can alter how they act. 1 year is probably a good age.
