for dogs? or humans, if there is such a thing...for dogs I think there good for inseccant little devils that like to bark, or if your training your dog to be good with children, but I personnally like muzzles, safer and cheaper

I dont like any sort of abuse especially towards animals. There are ways to train your dog without abuse. (the shock colar ) thats how I look at it!

I am ok with shock collars, but I definantly would recommend a muzzle, unless your dog is a biting, barking mutt use a muzzle.

well the shock collar has the right idea but its a little harsh...they actually make a collar now that instead of painful shocks sends a litte annoying pulse to your dogs head...same effect just a little more humane...and its expensive...so you might just want to try a muzzle or hell try training your dog better

I though shock collars were just so that dogs didnt run away (like if the dog goes more than say 20 feet from the house it gets a shock), people actually use them as a discipline method?

I guess they're ok to keep the dog in a certain boundary limit, but as punishment? There's always a better way...

I think its absolutly wrong. I mean what kind of living creature should be shocked? what would you feel like if you had a 2 LB coller shocking you every time you made one simple mistake?

I think its completely wrong.
It's completely unfair and there must be other ways to treat bad behaved dogs than that.

As with many methods, there are good things and bad things about shock collars...in the wrong hands it can be an instrument of abuse...in the right hands, for the right motives, they can be a godsend...

So far (and here I knock on wood), I've never had to use one...however...I've always had German Shepherds...dogs who instinctively chase and 'herd'...I've always had horses, too. So far, I've gotten my dogs as pups, and they learn to leave the horses alone (or deer...that crime would get them shot by someone), but what if?...what if I had a GSD who just didn't seem to be able to ignore them? What if there seemed to be no other way to SAVE HIS LIFE...OR THE KEEP THE HORSES FROM GETTING HURT... I wouldn't hesitate to use one. Once the 'chase' is on, there's very little but a kick to the head to stop the dog...so

They DO have their place...by the way, these collars are equiped with several levels of shock...it's recommended to start at the lowest, and work your way up to a level that gets their attention.

I hate shock collars. If a dog needs something...USE A MUZZLE!
