Relationship help?

I like this guy...but I don't know if he likes me. If I ask him out and he doesn't like me, it'll be embarrassing. We've known each other since year 2.
Does this mean he likes me?:
We were in the hammock outside my house and he asked me if I like anyone. I said who I used to like. I asked him who he liked and he said:
'I used to like u'.

Can someone give me advice on what to do?

'I used to like u'.

He still likes you.
That's all I can say.

Think of this: which is worse, getting embarrassed, and then getting over it, ( which will happen ) or never telling him how you feel and keeping all your feelings bottled up untill he gets a girlfriend and then It's too late. Also think of this, you only get one life so you should make the most of it.

Thing is, if he says no, it'll be sooo awkward.

If I do ask him out, is it wise to do it via email? because face to face would make it even mre awkward. : /
