How to lighten my hair?

I am a medium brown/medium redhead right now. I am wanting to lighten up my hair quite a bit, for a big (but pleasant) change. I was thinking of putting in some chunky honey/caramel highlights on top and leaving the bottom dark to create depth. What do...

ya'll think? I am so scared that the blonde I put in will turn orange b/c of the natural red I have. How do I prevent this from happening???

by going to a professional. BUT if you do it yourself, it probably will turn orange, but just deal with it for about 2 days and bleach it again. oh, and make sure the hair dye you use has bleach in it, just normal blonde hair dye won't work. seriously though, it's too risky, I would just go to a trusted professional.

Tina, thanks girl! I decided to go to a professional. What do I tell them? If I just say blonde they might get the wrong idea...I guess I could look at a color book huh? I have a few clippings from magazines showing what I do (and don't) want.

yes, I would use pictures and the color book. be specific about what you want, and make sure they understand :]
