How do I convince my dad to get a dachshund?

I've been wanting a dachshund [weiner dog] puppy since I was in 5th grade.Now im in 8th grade and I've been researching them for 4 years. The problem is I hunt and my dad wants a bird dog. I told him dachshunds [dak-sund] hunt small game but he wants a...

german shorthaired pointer. I love dogs and cats and fish I just want a dachshund. how do I persuade my parents to get one.

it doesn't matter how cute YOU think they are, or how much YOU want one.. at the end of the day, if you're going to get a dog you need to get one that will blend with your FAMILY and lifestyle the best. if the german pointer is what your dad thinks is best, then so be it. in the future if your family ever does get the german pointer, you can prove to your dad how responsible you are with it.. and maybe he'll get you a dachshund as well.. but for now there really is no way to convince him if he already said no.. you can get whatever dog you want when your older, live your own house, and pay your own bills.

I would present my case, then respect his decision - you would want him to respect yours...Take care !!

I have two dachshunds and they are soo lovable and sweet!! the long haired one is calmer though. To convince your parents, you should try to make a deal with them. Like if they want you to focus on your grades, ask them if you can get the dog if you get all a's. Also, maybe you could ask to get the dachshund first. Then after it's trained, get the german pointer so that it will follow the dachshund. Good luck!

Ya know, from the time I was six I wanted a German Shepherd...My parents liked Beagles...and later Fox Terriers...I didn't ever get my German Shepherd, until I was out and on my own (I got one right away)...and I've never been without one since then...that's nearly 40 years.

I think you're just going to have to wait.
