Is this proof that 1=2?

Asked by ravireuben about 1 year ago, 2 answers.

x=y
x^2=xy
x^2-y^2=xy-y^2
(x+y)(x-y)=y(x-y)
x+y=y
y+y=y
2y=y
2=1
can you find out the mistake?

The problem is in the step where you divide by (x-y)

Since x=y x-y=0

When you divide by zero you have infinity. Infinity times any number is still infinity.

What this really proves is 2*infinity=infinity
