Hi,
This is interesting:
Pain and Pleasure Take Similar Path in Brain
Scientists have discovered that the brain's response to pain appears to follow a path similar to that of the pleasure response. The findings could one day lead to better treatments for people suffering chronic pain.
Using a brain scanning technique called fMRI researchers monitored the brain's response to painful stimuli in eight healthy male volunteers. Heat probes were placed on the back of the men's hands.
During the first round of the experiment, the probe was at a temperature that produced no pain. During the second round, the probe was kept at 46 degrees Celsius (114 degrees Fahrenheit) for 25 seconds -- enough heat to generate pain.
The brain response generated by the two different temperatures was different. And the painful stimuli activated the brain's "reward" circuitry, which has previously been shown to respond to drugs, pleasant tastes and other pleasurable stimuli.
The findings provide insight into a circuitry that may provide a basis for understanding 'suffering' as a response to chronic pain. Chronic pain affects 30% to 50% of the adult population in the US.
Our understanding of how pain is differentially interpreted in the central nervous system of humans has been significantly advanced with the ability to image neural pathways or circuits involved in evaluating an experimental or clinical painful stimulus.

Personally, I am a firm believer of the saying: "There is a fine line between Love and Hate."
You can get pain from certain types of pleasure, and pleasure from certain types of pain. It's like everything on the opposite ends of the spectrum. Dark and Light, Black and White, with all these funny shades of grey in between.
Personally, I think that everything is interconnected, don't you? I have made...observations of my own (not exactly like yours I'll admit), but I agree that things that seem to be so opposite DO, if you care to look closely at them, also seem to be so hauntingly similar. It’s one of those strange mysteries of the human mind.
Oh, and Kudos to you for a great, thought-provoking question that I enjoyed answering. XDD
I've always thought of pain, as the pleasure of the pain. No, I don't enjoy torture. What I mean by 'pleasure of the pain' is that there is a pleasure that one receives from experiencing. Love is painful, Hope is painful, Desires are painful... all these beautiful things cause anguish... pain! But to not have love, hope, desires, etc. is to not live at all. So, I think we all would choose the pleasure of the pain. Experience life. Feel. BE.

Pain and pleasure?
This is going to sound rather odd, but then again... I'm the very epitome of 'odd' .
When one thinks the opposite of pleasure, they will automatically think of pain.
But... has anyone every really observed closely of the endless possibilities...
related to this?
I've found... according to my observations... that if you look upon the faces of those in org**m and those in torture, their faces look eerily similar.
Could it be, that pain and pleasure are so completely opposite of one another... that their distance could actually be the reason for their similarities?
This doesn't just apply to pain and pleasure.
It could apply to black and white, happiness and sadness, and love and hate...
though hate is not the opposite of love.
This is driving me insane!
What is your outlook on this?
