Easy - if you hold the guitar body with your right hand, and the neck of the guitar with your left. the strings are as follows: think of them as the floors in a building, in the US. The bottom string is the 1st string, the next one the 2nd string, and so on, up to the top one which woudl be the sixth string.

The other bit, when counting from top to bottom, is "Elephants And Donkeys Got Big Ears" for the notes E, A, D, G, B, E, which are the notes the guitar strings should match to when it's tuned in a traditional fashion. Hope this helps.
