What fish can live with bettas?

I have a Beta Fish and was wondering which types of fish can survive with a beta. Beta are pretty mean and will attack other beta fish if they are put in the same tank.

There are some fish that can live with beta in the same tank but I don't know which ones. Does anyone have any ideas?

You have to be VERY careful. Do not put it with any fish with long fins (Betas do nip) and at the first sign of aggression and nipping towards other fish SEPARATE him. You really can't know for sure if the beta will be aggressive or not. My grandmother had one with goldfish and he was fine, but I tried doing the same and my beta ripped other fish apart.

So like I said, test it out but separate the beta at the first sign of aggression.

I have a male fighting fish, 2 cory cats, 2 chinese algae eaters, and a shrimp in a 10 gallon tank and they get along great. I'm going to try and gt some neons or fish close to that and see hoe it goes, but stay away from anything with pinchers and long fins. The 2 algae eaters aren't very nice to each other though.

have my Betta living happily with several Guppies, 2 African Frogs, 2 cat fish, 2 plecos and a Platy...I will be getting more Platy as they prefer to school.
My mother has her Betta with a school of neon tetras, cat fish, plecos, African frogs and Guppies, all with out any problems.
I understand that as long as you do not add a fish with long showy fins, which the Betta may interpret as competition, you will fine. Here a few sites on compatibility which may help you... http://www.timstropicals.com/Compatibility/NameResults.asp http://nz.,

I have a bete fish too and just as you I couldn't find a fish to put in side my tank because the fighting nature of the fish came out and so I got smaller fishes and I notice that it did not do anything to them so thats all I got small cute fish like. So platies, swardtails, coly cats, neon tetras, cordinal tetras, white cloud mountain minnow, zebra danios and cherry bards are the fish that can live with my beta fish. You can try them with your beta fish.

I HAVE A MALE BETA FISH AND I BOUGHT TWO NEON TETRAS, AT FIRST THE BETA WAS FINE BUT LATER I THINK HE BECAME IRRITATED AND NOW HE IS MESSING WITHT THE TETRAS. SO MY ADVISE IS TO LEAVE THE BETA IN THE TANK ALONE.

I have a male beta fish and I want to put neon fish with him. Do the neon fish eat the same food as beta fish? what if you put more in water to feed all your fish won't the beta eat more than the 4 pellets? what I mean is how do you feed all your fish without the beta eating more than his 4 pellets?

You can put your Betta in a community tank. I,ve done it, but they do not like turbulence (bubbles) from air wands or filters. They prefer to be alone,If you have a tank you can put a divider in then you can display other Bettas. I had a tank that had a divider and it was nice, I could show both fish. They could see each other and they would display their anger but could,nt get at each other.

I'm having the same problem now. before they died, I had 2 ghost shrimp, Sidney and Shelbie, in with Benny (my betta). unfortunately, when I woke up the next day, both Sidney and Shelbie were dead. I couldn't tell if it was from natural causes or if it was frm Benny messing with them. now I'm scared to find out.

Jennifer85 is wrong, out of all the fish you can put in with bettas, neon tetras are probably the best...sure, all bettas have a different atitude to other fish, but for most people they are fine together.
I tried putting 2 male gupies in with my betta, but after one day one of the gupies was dead and the other had almost met the same fate before we saved him. The two female gupies that I put in were fine, but only bacause their fins were not large or colourful.
Right now I have these fish in my tank:
2 Plecos
2 Platys
5 Neon Tetras
1 Male Betta
2 Female guppie
But if your going to try these fish, please dont cram tham all into a tiny tank, they each need their own space!
Hope I helped aswer your question, happy fish owning!
