I strongly believe that the only way to get over your fears is to face them head on, and yes I also believe you will get over it. Don't pass up a good opportunity like this, just because of your fear. Do not give it the power to rule you that way! Here is a very good link with tips to help you overcome stage fright. I hope it will help you. Good luck, and "break a leg!"
It's always stressful to play in front of audiences in the beginning but your drama teacher is right, you'll get over it. I remember the first time I had to sing in public, it was hard but I just did it without letting myself get worried about the audience, and it felt great just to be doing it and afterwards I felt so proud. It got easier with every show, now it's a real pleasure to share my voice. Remember your doing it for you but also for others! That's actually the fun part...

Will I get over of my fear to be the lead in this play?
Okay, so in my drama class my teacher says that I should audition for the lead in Beauty and the beast, but I have a huge fear of the audience...my teacher says I will get over it...is she right? and should I go for lead?
