Is there something wrong with my fish tank?

Asked by yani21 5 months ago, 7 answers.

I recently bought 5 fish and now some of them are floating on top and some are in the bottom and they are not eating what's wrong?

Could be shock from the water temperature difference. When you buy fish you need to leave them in the bag and let the bag float in your fish tank water for an hour then gently release them into the tank. They may die if they're already floating.

what dawnathen has said is true! - did you pour the water from the bag of fish into the fish tank as well? cause that would help with the water temp!

Did you allow the aquarium water to age for awhile before adding fish? And did you only add one or two fish at a time to the tank so that the natural processes in the tank could take place without being overwhelmed?

If you didn't allow the water to age or didn't utilize a Chlorine removal agent in the water, that might be what's killing the fish.

Also, are you feeding the right kind of fish food for the types of fish you have. Some fish are bottom feeders whereas others may be surface feeders.

You have to let the tank cycle and also treat the water.

If fish are introduced too soon or too many fish are introduced it can upset the balance of the water and cause dangerous levels that are toxic to the fish. You have to pay attention to the alkalinity, temperature, ammonia and other signs.

Try purchasing some PH Balance treatment and some test strips. Let the tank cycle for a week before getting any fish.
