Is paying your collections good for your credit score?

I need to fix my credit score I have a few collections I want to pay I hear it may be bad for your score to pay them off is this true...I want to buy a house...(these collections are about 2 years)so there not that old,and there are 4 of them rangeing...

from $90.00 to $387.00 I feal real bad for letting them go to collections and would like to pay them off but,I dont want to make my credit score worse...

Anything that's listed on your credit report, if it's listed as unpaid, then paying it will help your credit score. However, if the items don't appear on your credit report then paying them off won't change the score.

If your friend loaned you money wouldn't the best thing to make things better be just paying it back? It's the same thing. It amounts to if you are trustworthy. That is the reason for the credit score system.

there are 3 differ. scores from all 3 reports,transunion is 588 and exper.is 544 and eq.is 550.
