Is limewire bad?

this be me Asked by jello about 1 year ago, 12 answers.

this is more of a poll than a personal question. Do you guys think limewire (or other file sharing sites) are bad because the artists dont get paid?

yea, it is hella bad.

not because of the artist not getting paid but...
I had limewire on my computer like 6 months ago. & if gave me a lot of viruses. & it made me not be able to save my changes on myspace, slow my comp down, and make it shut off whenever it wanted. btw the files you download from limewire have spywire, which means people spy on you to get your information. so I recomend not downloading anything from limewire but my friend uses "Frostwire" I heard its way better than limewire.

hope that helps(:

I think it depends on the artist, there are bands out there that dont really care about it. because if the download the music, and like it, they can buy shirts, or tickets to concerts. but if I looked at it from a bands point of view, I guess I would be pretty mad if people were stealing my music and I wasnt getting paid for it. I just buy CDs, after listening to a band on Myspace or the radio.

Limewire isn't bad itself. People are more or less responsible for what music gets up there. It's sad that the artists don't get paid as much, but there are still enough people out in the world who go out and buy the CD's. Personally, I do download music for the sake of having ready files on my computer to transfer to my iTunes library. But I also buy certain CD's from the bands I really like. If not for the sake of having it, for the sake of having album art; that's my favorite part of CD's is the little booklet.

The problem with buying CD's is that there are anywhere from 10 to 16 tracks on it and someone may only like one or two songs from that CD. Logic tells you, if you aren't going to get enough of a benefit from it, you aren't going to take it. It really doesn't make sense to spend 15 or 20 bucks on a CD when you're only paying for two songs.

jello,
Yeah, technically it is bad for the artists. And it is unfair in a way, but most people, even myself, are guilty of downloading music constantly. Its the technology, and people are going to do it no matter what. It just sucks for the artists because they aren't making enough money off of it, but they are still rich so it doesn't matter. They are making money off other things so it all evens up. Limewire itself, its good for music, but not for videos. I swear by limewire when it comes to music, works well.
