Marijuana is not nearly as addictive as alcohol, heroin, meth, or cigarettes.
Quitting marijuana does not cause the same kind of painful chemical widthdrawl that many other drugs do.
The thing that might be difficult is that you may not be able to hang out with your pot smoking friends. Marijuana is a very social drug; when someone lights some up in a social situation it can be very difficult to say no. That was the toughest thing fo rme when I quit.
Good luck!
If you are genuinely willing to stop the behavior - you can - your choice:
A state of addiction is reached when people habitually or obsessively 'surrender themselves' to a substance or 'behavior'. A person with an addiction uses a substance or behavior to escape from pain or reality. Yet by the nature of addiction, they only hurt themselves or others, and continue to deepen their addiction.
I wish you the best !!
Dear aln77,
Chemical addictions can not be shut down by choice but need rehab, counselling medications and plenty of support. Pot is addictive and someone who has smoked daily will more than likely need some help. If you chose to go cold turky you would have some physical withdrawals but mostly there will be psychological hurdles. So seek out an Al-ANON in your area for some help.
Sue...good luck
I agree with filletofspam, weed is not addictive its all psychological if you ask me. I quit , and I feel much much better and healthier, sometimes you will want to go back to help your stress or whatever, but you need to tell yourself there's other ways.
If you truly want to quit. You will.
best of luck.
of course it is possible! anything is possible! I quit by forcing myself to wait 1 day when I ran out, then 2 days then 3 etc. Before you know it days pass and you hardly even think about it anymore. Have many, many things lined up to do when you get bored or stressed. Use affirmations!!! Adopt some hobbies, ie model planes, bowling, pool, transcendental meditation, wittling soap with your mom's false teeth! Whatever it takes! Most towns have hotlines you can call annonymously, call 'em when you're feening. Tell friends and/or family what your goal is and ask if it would be o.k. to call or visit and chat when you feen. A lot of pple will frown on this one, but if you are not alcoholic have stiff drink instead. Of course being careful not to trade 1 vice for another. Living life through a pot induced haze is a waste of a very important existence.
