If you've been together this long and it's working and your family know about it, then I think that you have some proof that this relationship is not a disaster!
However, I think you're right to suspect that many Muslims would think it was wrong. Some questions here are to do with the depth of your faith, and your family's faith. Are you Muslim simply because that's what you were born into? Or does your Muslim faith mean a lot more to you than that - do you pray, study and got to Mosque regularly? If your family are practicing Muslims, then I would think they might be worried.
As a Christian myself, I also wonder if you are right to describe your boyfriend as a 'Christian'. I know that most of my Muslim friends thought that being a Christian was the same as being a Muslim - you are whatever you're born into, and nothing can change that. People with white faces and European backgrounds, to put it simply, must be Christians, in their opinion.
In fact, what makes me a Christian is kind of different to what makes you a Muslim. A Christian can have any kind of cultural or religious background, but is it is impossible to be born a Christian. Any person can become a Christian by deciding to follow Jesus. If your boyfriend hasn't done that, then he may come from a traditionally Christian culture, but he's not actually a Christian himself. This would mean that he and his family might have less of a problem with him going out with someone of a different faith - I don't know about him and his family but it's worth asking him if he considers himself a Christian for real, or just by an accident of birth. That may make a difference to your relationship.
I am a muslim girl as well and I have dated a couple christian guys and actually my current boyfriend is christian. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you know your boundaries and he knows things about your religion. I do not think you should convert and I think religion plays a more important role when it comes down to marriage so if and when you plan on marrying him or some other guy, that is when you should talk about religion to him and how you plan on pursuing the relationship. Otherwise have fun, and if you care for him then enjoy each other. I love my boyfriend very much, and I think the only problem you should have is maybe if your parents are very strict and dont accept it but you are their daughter and they will eventually understand because they love you, that is what happened to me. Goodluck
nothing going to happen to you religionz are made by us, and we are made by god and god duznt follow any religion.god is one for "me" ,"u" n "us"...but you need to be fearless if your love is true with that guy...because I dont know god favour dating kissing and all before marriage or not(lol)- Fun mail me
It depends entirely on how committed you both are to your religions. If you're both very religious people, it may not work. Even if you don't have problems while you're dating, getting married gets your families involved, and that can get ugly. Also, I know many split religion couples that had no problems until they decided to have and raise kids. Then the issue of the child's religion came up, and it was not good for the marriage.
But if you're both tolerant and nominally religious, and if you respect each other's beliefs, it could absolutely work.
Marriage is a great big step, and although you don't mention it, usually that is what happens after a long term relationship.
If it comes to that, you need to ask many many questions...
A lifetime committment is something to take very seriously.
Marriages in our country are breaking up, on a 1 in 2 ratio.
In the church and out.
This needs to stop. It brings too much heartache.
Please take time to talk thru all the issues involved, before taking the big step, if that is in the future.
Broken families do no one any good.
Relationship is hard work, especially after the honeymoon period is over, and each issue that is added to it, makes it harder. Cross culture for one thing, and trying to make two different faith systems work, can be very challanging.
Not impossible, just harder.
Much to think about.
Blessings...
Why the h#ll does it matter what religion you are?
Especially if you're both of biblical religions?
Screw the religion part(not saying drop it) & just date him FOR WHO HE IS not for what he believes in. If you love him & want to be with him go for it, if not then dump him. Love is love is love. That's like a meixcan dumping their spouse becouse their chines.
How stupid is that?
Come on now chicky
do you really have to ask that question?
You know what you want to do, just go for it & do what you feel is right.
I see a lot of questions like this I believe that if you love a person and want to be with them your religion should have nothing to do with anything my wife is a baptist and I am wiccan we have been together for going on seven years and married for 4 of them just like race shoudln't stop two people from being together
