What you are doing is called rationalization. You steal something and know that it is wrong but you rationalize it by doing something else good thinking that overall you are still a good person.
It is nice that you donate money to charity but your reason to do this should because you want to help other people; not to ease your conscience for something else.
If nothing else consider the consequences that will happen when you get caught. Believe you me it isn't worth it. A few expensive trinkets are not worth the hassle and embarassment of getting busted for shoplifting. When you are busted nobody will care that you donate money to charity; you'll just be another criminal.
Yes. Stealing is against the law. Even if you give back to the people with problems like cancer. It's taking away from the people a the store. You know they work hard to pay for all of that stuff to fill back up the stocks... not for someone to just help themselves because they didn't have a actual job to pay for it. It doesn't matter. Fair is fair. Get a job and actually pay for the stuff. That's illegal and if you get caught you will be in big trouble and that kind of stuff stays on your record forever. It doesn't really put you out to be a good person, it just makes you look like a loser or a bad person. So do the right thing.
Yes, stealing is stealing no matter how you look at it. I agree with filletofspam, you shouldn't be giving to charity becauze you want to clear your conscience but because you want to. Plus, if your stealing stuff your actually taking from someone else not just the store. Did you know that a majority of things at stores are meant to raise money for a charity? Some stores just ask straight out if you want to donate while others put merchandise on the shelves to raise money for charities. But yes it is wrong but that doesn't mean your a bad person or anything just give to charity without stealing and you'll be an even better person! Also I don't think if you asked your parents for some money every once in a while to get something that they would deny it to you just ask in advance and you should be fine. FunMail me to let me know how it goes!

Is it bad to steal but then give to charity?
when ever I go to a store and I see something like little and I like it but its kinda of expensive.. I just put it in my purse.. but to make up for it I donate to people who really need it like cancer and things like that. Is that so wrong???
