He is just over-controlling you. Maybe he has no company to go out with time to time.

It probably means both...he doesn't trust you because he doesn't trust himself. The very minute...no the very second another person says you cannot hang with friends, you cannot go here or there etc. Is the very second you drop him and move on. This is the very first sign of an abuser.

your a very bright girl it seems like,,, for a relationship to actually WORK you need one main thing TRUST and he doesnt have it with you thats only going to lead to problems,,, he cud of very well done something back in the past and if so honestky he isnt worth your time,, but you will never know and you cud ask but he might lie which is the worst
